“Under 21 European Championships & Open European Trophy champions” in Dziwnów, Poland.

Montenegrian reputation was defended by junior national team player Ilija Markovic on The European Championship in the competition of sailors under the age of 21, for the Olympic Laser class, in  Dziwnow, Poland. Ilija is a member of the Delfin Sailing Club from Tivat, he is only 17 years old.
Markovic eventually finished 13th in the competition of the best sailors in Europe under the age of 19, and on the basis of all the above, he has nothing to regret, and at the same time it is evident that in his career he lacks experience and routines, as well as more strong international competitions to reach the very top.
He started the European Championship phenomenally and after the first regatta he was third in the general placement and the first in the competition up to age of 19.  Markovic had many ups and downs, but he reached the primary goal, the gold group, the opportunity to fight for the podium.

Ilija Markovic was in the eighth place, he did his best in the last three days, but the weather conditions were not favorable to him, as the stronger wind responds to him. In the end, he placed 13th in the hellish competition. The Municipality of Tivat and the Ministry of Sport and Youth of Montenegro supported Markovic’s competition program. Bora Marine Services, Allegra Cruises, Auto Shop Tivat and Boka Adriatic assisted in going to the European Championship.
It should be emphasized that 138 European sailors participated in the Laser Standard European Championships and 63 women in the Olympic Laser Radial Championships. SC Delfin is hosting this European Championship event from 06 to 13 of Jun next year.
When it comes to the region, Ilija Markovic took third place. The U19 European Gold medal was for German sailor Nico Naujock GER with 177 points and finally ranked 11th overall, escorted by also German Philip Walkenbach GER with 193 (14th overall) and French Alexandre Kowalski FRA with 237 (24th overall).

There is no time for resting for Ilija Markovic as the 52nd Balkan Sailing Championship in Tivat begins on September 6th. On this competition, last year he took  fourth place in Greece.

We wish him good luck and strong wind!
